Residential Placement Advisory Committee Member (Volunteer)
The Community Services Coordination Network (CSCN) is a not-for-profit organization funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, as well as the Ministry of Health. The staff at CSCN collaborate with families to help them access a variety of services and supports for children and adolescents with complex needs. The organization serves as the single point of access for intensive live-in and out-of-home mental health services for children and youth, which are funded by the Ministry of Health.
One of CSCN’s functions is to facilitate the Residential Placement Advisory Committee (RPAC). RPAC is a mandated service under the Child and Family Service Act designed to ensure that children in out-of-home, live-in group care are well served. CSCN coordinates and conducts RPAC reviews for children from London/Middlesex, Elgin, Oxford, Huron, Perth, Grey, Bruce, Windsor-Essex, Sarnia-Lambton, and Chatham-Kent, regardless of where in the province the child is placed.
The responsibilities of an RPAC member include:
• Participate in virtual training before joining the RPAC committee (1 hour)
• Review the information about children and youth requiring RPAC reviews, which is sent before the monthly RPAC meeting. This generally includes a plan of care document and summaries of interviews with guardians, youth, and service providers.
• Participate in a virtual RPAC meeting once per month. The length of the meeting ranges from 1 hour to 3 hours, depending on how many youths there are to review.
• Participate with other RPAC members in considering whether the residential placement or proposed residential placement is appropriate for the child being reviewed in their current circumstances
