Shining a light on the good in our community | Nominations now open for the Pillar Community Innovation Awards

NEWS RELEASE

LONDON, April 1, 2020 - Over the past 14 years, the Pillar Community Innovation Awards has been shining a light on the good happening in our community to call others to action.  While it may seem hard to find the bright spots in this current situation, we have been inspired by the collective action of our community to aid and protect those most at risk.

“I am encouraged by the unprecedented global movement of individuals coming together for the greater good and those on the frontlines putting the needs of others before their own. Celebrating these gestures of support, big and small, gives us hope for the future. I strongly believe this moment in our history has the potential to change the way we view our shared humanity.” says Michelle Baldwin, Executive Director, Pillar Nonprofit Network.

Last year almost 1000 Londoners joined us at the awards ceremony to honour the individuals and organizations doing exceptional work in our communities. Now more than ever, we need to take an opportunity to recognize those who are creating meaningful shifts in the way we support each other. We encourage you to submit a nomination in recognition of their work.

The nominations are now open for the four categories of Innovation, Leadership, Impact, and Collaboration. Any nonprofit, charity, individual, business, social enterprise, education or government sector organization in the London, Elgin, Oxford and Middlesex regions whose work relates to positive community impact, is eligible for nomination. Nomination guidelines are available online at Pillar Nonprofit Network’s website, pillarnonprofit.ca/nomination-guidelines. The deadline for submissions is May 22, 2020. Nominations are reviewed by an external group of community volunteers who will select 12 finalists.

The Pillar Community Innovation Awards ceremony is planned to take place on November 19, 2020 at RBC Place London. Virtual hosting will be explored if needed but we remain hopeful. Award recipients will receive $2,000 to be directed to the registered charity of their choice and will be presented with a custom-designed award, accompanied by their names engraved on the perpetual plaque in the Hudson’s Bay Passageway at the London Central Library.

Thank you to our Platinum sponsor for the event, Libro Credit Union, with 3M, Canada Life, Rogers TV, and FM96/AM980/Fresh103.1/Country104 as Award Sponsors.
