Volunteer Position: Food Cupboard Shopper
Name of Program: Basic Needs and Support Services
Duration: 6months and above
Hours Required: 1-4 hour Shift per week (Monday-Friday; 9am-1pm/1pm-5pm)
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide shopping service to the CNRC Food Cupboard program on a timely basis with a sharp eye on the budget and opportunities for savings.
- Keeping and submitting receipts for food purchases.
- Seeking approval for reimbursement of food purchases outside of designated grocery store.
Key Tasks:
- Receive the shopping list for the Community Cupboard from the Basic Needs and Support Services Assistant.
- Shop at the grocery store designated by the coordinator from the designated list
- Shop for the best quality food at the best price.
- Understand what substitutions are acceptable and what are not.
- Make the coordinator aware of opportunities to save money in food purchases through sales or coupons, or purchase at other locations.
- Bring the food back to the Food Cupboard and assist with restocking the shelves and fridge.
Skills and Attributes Required: Friendly, compassionate, non-judgmental person able to communicate clearly what is offered at the food cupboard and the terms of use of the food cupboard. Able to observe and enforce terms of use as well as behavioural issues in a calm manner. Familiarity with de-escalation tactics an asset.
