Volunteer Position: Cofacilitator Art Therapist – Women’s Art Club
Name of Program: Community Development
Duration: 6months and above
Hours Required: 3 hours per week. Ability to attend during weekday daytime hours
Key Responsibilities:
- To work with the Basic Needs and Support Services Assistant to provide support and assistance to the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Women’s Art Club.
- Ensuring that the Women’s Art Club is a safe space for all participants.
- Ensuring participants who experience crisis during a group session are treated with sensitivity and support
Key Tasks:
- Assist in supporting art therapy projects for once weekly women’s art group.
- Work with Basic Needs and Support Service Assistant to set up room and supplies.
- Help CMHA worker to co-facilitate the group and provide expertise, encouragement and support to participants, both individually and as a group.
- Step in to facilitate group activity if CMHA worker is called away to provide an individual participant with crisis support.
Skills and Attributes Required:
- Candidate must be female.
- Graduate of art therapy program that meets CATA-ACAT standards.
- Student registered in CATA-ACAT approved program
- Friendly, compassionate, and enthusiastic
- Training in mental health first aid, trauma informed care and related courses
- Flexible in role and delivery of programming
- According to participant needs
- Certification as a professional art therapist with CATA-ACAT.
