Responsibilities:
- To meet patient at a pre-determined designated hospital entrance and escort them to their clinic/unit appointment.
- Accompany the patient to the clinic/unit registration area, and assist patient as necessary with providing personal information to registration clerk.
- Accompany patient to the designated waiting room until the patient is called for their appointment, at which time the volunteer remains in the waiting room area for the patient to return (volunteers are not permitted to accompany the patient to procedure or consultation rooms).
- While waiting for appointment time, volunteer may escort the patient to the cafeteria or other points of interest within the hospital, such as the on-site store.
- After the patient’s appointment is complete, volunteer will escort patient back to the door they arrived at, and wait with patient for their ride.
- If patient requires assistance to call for a ride, volunteer will assist the patient to use the phone located at the volunteer information desk.
Volunteers should not and/or are not responsible for:
- Toileting or assisting the patient in the washroom. The volunteer must remain outside of the main washroom door.
- Assist the patient with undressing or redressing before or after medical procedures.
- Paying for, or taking money from, patient for meals/coffee, parking, or purchases in stores.
- Supporting patients off hospital property (ie: within parking garage or at bus stop).
- Lift patient from wheelchair to waiting room chair, or into/out of vehicle.

Additional Opportunity Information:
Opportunities for this role are sporadic, at the request of the patients. Volunteer will be requested no less than 10 days prior to patient's appointment. This role may be in addition to other volunteer roles at the hospital.
