ABOUT MERRYMOUNT
Merrymount Family Support & Crisis Centre is an accredited Children’s Mental Health Centre that provides around-the-clock family capacity building and support services, for children aged 0 to 12, across London, Middlesex, Elgin and Oxford Counties. Merrymount provides a wide range of crisis, respite and early intervention mental health services and programs to strengthen children and their families. All Merrymount programs are tailored to the individual needs of the child, and to the needs of the family to support the child.

Relief Childcare Worker- Casual

Department: Child Mental Wellness Program

Reporting to: Program Manager, Child Mental Wellness Program

Current hours of work:  Depending on program needs. Must be available to work daytime and afternoon shifts on weekends as well as some shifts during the week.

Salary: $27.80 per hour 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Relief Child Care Staff are assigned on an “as needed” basis in the Child Mental Wellness Program. The Relief Worker covers shifts in the program when staff are absent or situations where temporary additional staff are required. Relief staff provide direct care and support to children with a focus on meeting each child’s individual needs and interests (physical, emotional, social, cognitive, behavioural, etc.) to promote social, emotional and mental wellness

QUALIFICATIONS:

Diploma or degree in Child and Youth Work or related human service field. For specific positions, certain diplomas or certificates may be mandatory for licensing or specified by Merrymount to meet particular program needs and multi-disciplinary servicegoals (Diploma or degree in Child and Youth Work or related field of study plus skills and experience and completion of a Crisis Intervention Training Program – theory and physical restraints/blocks are required to work in the residential program).

Previous experience working with children in the children’s mental health sector. Experience working in a residential setting is preferred.

Demonstrated effectiveness working with children at risk for or experiencing mental health challenges that affect their functioning in one or more areas (home, school, community).

Demonstrated awareness and ability in utilizing a strength based, family-centred and trauma informed approach.

Demonstrated ability to plan and implement programs and activities for children focused on building resiliency, capacity and coping strategies, mindfulness, social skills and life skills, emotion regulation skills, etc.

Strong communication skills: active listening, courteous, friendly, respectful, empathetic, responsive, etc. 

Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team.

Current First Aid and CPR Certificates.

Crisis Intervention Training (Safe Management Group) certificate.

Bilingual in English and French language is considered an asset.
