Neighbourhood Worker- Summer Day Camp

Position Summary
The Neighbourhood Worker- Summer Day Camp provides hands-on support in delivering and supervising our Summer Day Camp program for children and youth ages 4–13. This role ensures participants are engaged in safe, fun, and inclusive activities that foster social, emotional, physical, and educational growth. Summer Camp Staff play an important role in creating a positive camp experience and supporting participants’ development in a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

Program Delivery & Support

  • Assist in implementing daily Summer Camp activities, including arts, games, outdoor recreation, and educational experiences.

  • Support a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment that encourages children to participate and learn.

  • Be fully present with participants throughout the day, giving your undivided attention to their experiences, needs, and growth.

  • Help children during transitions between activities and maintain consistent routines.

  • Model respectful interactions, positive communication, and supportive approaches that contribute to children’s well-being.

  • Encourage participants to engage actively in activities and foster teamwork, problem-solving, and social skills.

  • Assist with set-up and clean-up of program spaces and materials to maintain a safe, organized environment.

Participant & Team Support

  • Supervise children, youth, and volunteers to ensure safety and positive engagement.

  • Support participants in building social-emotional skills using strengths-based approaches.

  • Collaborate with fellow team members to ensure smooth daily programming.

Program Documentation

  • Help maintain accurate attendance records and daily logs.

  • Share observations with the Child and Youth Coordinator to support ongoing assessment of participant needs and program effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, post-secondary education in Child & Youth Care, Social Services, Education, or a related field.

  • Experience working with children and youth in recreation, childcare, or community programs is an asset.

  • Knowledge of child development, inclusive practices, and strengths-based approaches.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with children, families, and team members.

  • Patient, adaptable, and able to respond calmly to challenges or conflict situations.

This position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs, applications must meet the follow eligibility criteria set out by Canada Summer Jobs:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment*;
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and, 
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
