Head Instructor

Summary

The Head Instructor has a primary responsibility for ensuring safe, quality therapeutic equine care and instruction as per SARI standards, policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Head Instructor include but are not limited to:

  • Teaching lessons within Therapeutic Riding, Grooming, Summer Camp, Little Britches, and any other program booking, 
  • Working with the Program Therapist and Program Manager to deliver dignified and quality programming,
  • Coordinating horse workload and care requirements, 
  • Ensuring adequate coverage for all SARI classes,
  • Recruiting/selecting/mentoring/supervising volunteer instructor team,
  • Providing effective leadership for the program staff, volunteer instructor, and exercise rider teams.

Hours

This position requires full-time hours (40 hours/week). Ideal candidate will have flexible availability that includes daytime, weekends, and evenings.

Qualifications

  • Experienced & competent horse handler and rider
  • Experience working with people with disabilities
  • Demonstrated confidence in a leadership role
  • Flexible, demonstrated ability to adapt to change
  • Willingness to teach long hours
  • Strong organizational and problem solving/decision-making abilities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to independently and harmoniously as part of a team
  • CanTRA or PATH certification, or willingness to work toward
  • Education in related field an asset
